Nagpur: The 16th National Census exercise commenced in Nagpur on May 1, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Mayor Neeta Thakre participating in the process through self-enumeration and urging citizens to actively contribute to the national exercise.
Carrying the slogan “Census for Public Welfare”, the census is being conducted in a fully digital format for the first time. As part of the initial phase, citizens have been given an opportunity to complete self-enumeration between May 1 and May 15.
Joining the first phase were Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, ruling party leader Narendra (Balya) Borkar, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar, Additional Commissioner Ankit, and all zonal chairpersons, who also completed their self-enumeration digitally.
Appealing to citizens, Gadkari, Mayor Thakre, and Commissioner Dr. Itankar urged residents to take part in the self-enumeration process and support this crucial national initiative aimed at planning and development.
Dr. Itankar further directed heads of government offices to motivate their staff to complete self-enumeration and ensure wider participation.
Census process and timeline
As per the 2011 Census, Nagpur had a population of 24,05,665, including 12,25,405 males and 11,80,260 females.
For the current census, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has deployed 4,500 enumerators and 700 supervisors across the city. Each enumerator will be responsible for collecting data from approximately 800 citizens.
• May 1 to May 15: Self-enumeration phase
• May 16 to June 14: Door-to-door verification by enumerators using the HLO App (House Listing Operation Application)
How to complete self-enumeration
Citizens can submit their details online through the official portal: se.census.gov.in, accessible via mobile phones or computers. The platform supports 16 languages, making it convenient for users.
After logging in and filling in the details, the head of the family will receive an 11-digit Self-Enumeration (SE) ID, which must be preserved and presented to the enumerator during the verification visit.
