Nagpur: In a swift midnight operation, Khaparkheda Police busted an illegal diesel stockpiling racket and arrested a 30-year-old man who was allegedly selling fuel without authorisation along the Bitgaon–Suradevi road.
Acting on a specific tip-off, a patrolling team raided a roadside kiosk near a paan shop between 12.04 am and 12.30 am on Wednesday. During the search, conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, the police apprehended Suraj Manohar Mangate (30), a resident of Waregaon in Kamptee.
Officials recovered two blue plastic drums containing around 280 litres of a diesel-like inflammable substance. Mangate reportedly failed to produce any valid licence or documents to justify the storage and sale of the fuel. Police suspect that he was engaged in illegal stocking and black marketing of diesel for monetary gain.
The entire stock, valued at approximately Rs 22,400, was seized from the spot.
A case has been registered at Khaparkheda Police Station under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and Sections 4 and 23 of the Petroleum Act, 1934. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is in progress.
The action was carried out under the supervision of DCP Dr Sandeep Pakhale (Zone 6) and ACP Ankush Khedkar (Kamptee Division). The raid was executed by PI Harish Rumkar along with PSI Vilas Karangami, Hawaldar Alok Rawat, and Constables Raju Bhoyar and Amit Khobragade.
