Dhantoli DB Squad nabs chain-snatcher, crack many cases

Nagpur: The DB (Detection Branch) Squad of Dhantoli Police Station on Thursday arrested a chain-snatcher who was on chain-snatching spree in different areas of the city.

The DB Squad, led by API G B Sonavane, received a tip-off that the hardened chain-snatcher Mohan Dnyaneshwar Ghode (23), resident of Jaitala, Nagpur, was involved in many chain-snatching cases. Acting on the tip-off, the DB Squad detained him and brought to Dhantoli Police Station. The sustained grilling forced the chain-snatcher spill the beans. Mohan told police that about three months back, he along with accomplice Tingya alias Bhimratna Ramdas Gadekar (30) (Who is at present lodged in Nagpur Central Jail for a theft case under Pratap Nagar Police Station jurisdiction) riding a Bajaj Discover motorcycle (MH-31/DU 6340) had relieved an old woman of her gold chain behind Sai Mandir. Similarly, on 21.06.2015, gold chain of a pedestrian woman was snatched from Tatya Tope Nagar. The accused chain-snatcher further told police that the stolen gold chains were sold to Sunil Gurav, resident of Hudkeshwar. Subsequently, the DB Squad has recovered 14 grammes of gold from him. The Bajaj Discover motorcycle has also been seized.

The action was initiated by DB Squad Assistant Police Inspector G B Sonavane and his team under the guidance of DCP Zone 4 Ishu Sindhu, ACP Ajni Shekhar Tare, Senior PI Rajesh Mane, PI Shailesh Sankhe.
