Nagpur: Hundreds of people on Friday accorded grand welcome to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his official residence Ramgiri here and felicitated him for fulfilling promises of carving out an independent Ministry for OBCs and scrapping of Nagpur Improvement Trust so that there is only one single development agency for the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis said that as promised, an independent Ministry for OBCs has formed to ensure welfare schemes reach doors of the weaker and deprived sections of the society. NIT was also dissolved as per the promise. The move will see that there is only one development agency in Nagpur, the Chief Minister said.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion include Mayor Pravin Datke, MLAs Sudhakar Kohale, Dr Milind Mane, Vikas Kumbhare, Krushna Khopde, Sudhakar Deshmukh, OBC Morcha President Nanabhau Umathe, Sandeep Joshi, Balwant Jichkar, Dr Kalpana Pandey, Nandatai Jichkar, Bhojraj Dubey, Mohan Mate, Gopal Bohre, Girish Deshmukh, Jaiprakash Gupta, Vijay Mahatkar, Vivek Tarase, Minatai Tidke, Kirti Ajmera, Onkareshwar Gurav, Ramesh Chopde, city BJP office-bearers, Corporators and representatives of various organizations in large number.
Fadnavis further said, “There was demand since past many years for separate Ministry for OBCs. However, justice was being denied. BJP, during election campaign, had promised to fulfill this demand. The promise has now been fulfilled. Creating Ministry is the first step. This ministry will be developed to reach welfare schemes to the doors of weaker, deprived sections of the society,” the Chief Minister said.
“Promises were also doled by others to dissolve NIT but nobody fulfilled them. According to citizens’ demand there should not be two development agencies. Now, Metro Region Authority is in place for Nagpur city. Therefore NIT was dissolved and now the responsibility to carry out all development works will be with NMC. On the other hand, development of outer areas will be done by Metro Region. BJP has fulfilled the promise,” Fadnavis asserted.
“We are committed to overall development of all deprived sections of the society in accordance with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” Fadnavis declared.
At the outset, City BJP President and MLA Sudhakar Kohale welcomed Fadnavis by garlanding him and offered sweets. OBC Morcha President Nanabhau Umathe felicitated Fadnavis on behalf of OBC community for forming separate Ministry for OBCs.
