Nagpur News : Newly appointed Guardian Minister of Nagpur district Dr Nitin Raut on Saturday, directed the officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to prepare roadmap for developing Nagpur as world class city.

“The development of London street or construction of cement road will not transform Nagpur at world level. We have to think afresh to project Nagpur’s develop-ment as a model at world level in roads, buses, buildings, tourism and other aspects. There should be vision for next 20-25 years for development of the Orange City,” said the minister.

Raut was addressing a meeting related to development of Nagpur city at Ravi Bhavan here on Saturday evening. NIT Chairman Pravin Darade, Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, District Collector Abhishek Krishna were present on the dais. Raut was surprised that NMC and NIT did not start work in this direc-tion in last several years.

He said Pune and Pimpri-Chichwad had started development to become world class cities. The local body has to change in development plan on these lines, he said. Raut also discussed issues related to distribution of photo passes to slum-dwellers, protection to slums till the year 2000, construction of houses under Basic Services to Urban Poor scheme,Aiwajdars, Ramai Awas Yojana, hawkers, and other programmes.

THE proposal city Metro Rail was cleared by State Government in a single day due to efforts taken by Dr Raut, NIT Chairman Pravin Darade said in the meeting. He said, the proposal is now pending with the Central Government for cabinet approval. The draft plan of Metropolitan Region is ready and Chief Minister will have to hold a meeting in this regard for finalisation of Metro Region Development Plan.
