
Nagpur: A 20-year-old youth allegedly died by suicide in the Byramji Town area of Nagpur, under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station, reportedly after slipping into depression following the death of a close friend.
The deceased has been identified as Vilaskumar Shivkumar Patel, a native of Ataria in Madhya Pradesh. He was employed and residing at the house of a person identified as Jain in the city.
According to police, Vilaskumar was deeply disturbed after his close friend allegedly died by suicide by hanging on December 24 in the Shankar Nagar area. Vilaskumar had reportedly seen his friend’s body, an incident that left him mentally shaken. Since then, he was under considerable stress and was frequently seen viewing his friend’s photograph on his mobile phone.
On Saturday, Vilaskumar allegedly took the extreme step by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room using a yellow nylon rope. Jain noticed him in the hanging position and immediately brought him down before rushing him to Mayo Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead after examination.
Sadar police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
