Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar Police of Nagpur on Friday booked a youth from Delhi for allegedly circulating a Nagpur girl’s cell number and making highly objectionable comments about her on social media. The victim, who had joined a private coaching class in Delhi for Civil Services Examination preparation, started receiving numerous phone calls upon returning to Nagpur.
The calls were inappropriate and humiliating with callers assuming she was a call girl. She also received lewd comments over the phone. Frustrated by the constant harassment and defamation on social media, the victim convinced one of the callers to reveal the source of her number. The caller provided a screenshot of a social media group where her number was shared along with the name of the person responsible, Vikas Patel Verma.
The victim recognised Vikas from the photograph on Telegram as someone from her coaching class in Delhi. Based on the victim’s complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the InformationTechnology Act against Vikas.
