Nagpur News: The Dahegaon (Rangari) Gram Panchayat, recently in the headlines for 1000-acre Government land grab by mafia and subsequent carving out of illegal layouts and selling of plots to thousands of prospective purchasers, has initiated some firm measures that could be termed as damage control exercise. The Gram Panchayat has put seven business groups coming under its area on notice. They have been directed to pay the pending Commercial/Property Tax amounting to crores of rupees immediately or face the stringent action of seizure of their properties.
According to sources, till now the business groups were evading the taxes in connivance with the then office-bearers of Gram Panchayat. But after the transformation of power, the present office-bearers have vowed not to spare the defaulters. The Gram Panchayat has legal powers to recover the taxes and if any business house refuses to remit the taxes, the Gram Panchayat has authority to seize their properties.
According to rules and regulations of Gram Panchayat, the commercial groups utilizing the land for their businesses under its area, have to pay land tax at the rate of Rs 4 per sq ft annually. The Gram Panchayat has now assessed the pending tax on the 7 business groups amounting to Rs 1,37,08,711.40 and it has sent notices to them by Registered Post in this regard.

Khare and Tarkunde Infrastructure Company had taken agriculture land of Arun Kumar Singh on rent for a period of 3 years and the period is over. If, for any reason, Khare and Tarkunde Infrastructure Company fails to pay the tax, then the pending tax amount of Rs 51,14,987.20 will be recovered from Arun Kumar Singh Group. If Arun Kumar Singh Group also fails to pay the pending tax, then the Gram Panchayat will seize the land being used by Khare and Tarkunde Infrastructure Company.
