    Dacoits strike at Thadeshwari Ram Temple in Ganeshpeth, decamp with cash, jewellery

    Nagpur: In an audacious act, a gang of dacoits struck at Thadeshwari Ram Temple, situated a few metres away from Ganeshpeth Police Station, and decamped with cash and jewelleries valued over Rs 2 lakh. The temple is managed by Madhavdas Maharaj. The daring theft at the historical temple triggered outrage and discontent among devotees.

    According to sources, the gang of burglars entered Thadeshwari Ram Temple around midnight and removed gold-silver jewelleries adorned on idols of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. The anti-social elements also lifted other valuables and cash from donation box by breaking it open. The theft came to notice of Madhavdas Maharaj and his disciples in the morning. They immediately alerted Ganeshpeth police. A team of cops rushed to the historic temple and started investigation. It is learnt that the CCTV cameras installed at the temple captured the theft and the perpetrators. The footage is being scanned by investing cops in order to get any lead in cracking the burglary.

    Devotees have expressed their discontent over the incidents of thefts in temples in recent days. A Hanuman Temple in Maskasath was targeted a few days ago. Even the Poddareshwar Ram Mandir was not spared. Surprisingly, Thadeshwari Ram Temple which was struck late midnight is situated a few meters away from Ganeshpeth Police Station.
