The five accused robbed the detained man of his mobile, gold ring, Tata Sumo car collectively worth Rs 5.27 lakh. He was also forced to sign on some blank stamp papers, cheques and record his voice. Later, the accused blackmailed the man and asked him to pay extortion money of Rs 2 lakh within two days. The accused woman and four men threatened to kill the man if he approached police and opened his mouth. The incident occurred when the victim Gopichand Wamanrao Bhandarkar (51), resident of Plot No. 122, Collector Colony, Godhni, went to the accused woman’s house around 7.15 pm on May 6 and was detained till 0230 hours of May 7. The name of the Jaripatka-based accused woman has not been disclosed. The four accused men have been identified as Salim Siddique, Ravishankar Prasad and Ashish Rawat, all residents of Kanhan and Kailash Motghare, resident of Rani Durgawati Nagar. Gopichand, after his ordeal ended, approached Jaripatka police and lodged a complaint against the five accused.

Jaripatka Senior PSI Shrikhande, acting on the complaint, booked the accused woman and the four men under Sections 341, 342, 397, 185, 506(B) of IPC and investigating the matter further.

However, one more angle of the episode has come to the fore. Earlier, the victim of the above incident, Gopichand Wamanrao Bhandarkar, was booked on the charges of molestation of the woman. According to police, when Gopichand went to the woman’s house around 11 pm on May 6, he demanded water to quench his thirst. When the woman went to another room to fetch water, Gopichand allegedly followed her and molested her by indulging in obscene actions. A complaint was filed by the woman with Jaripatka police in this regard.

Based on the complaint, PSI Bhoyar registered an offence against the accused Gopichand Bhandarkar under Section 354 of IPC and was probing the matter.

Now, a detailed investigation would reveal whether Gopichand was detained, thrashed and robbed of booty and blackmailed as a fallout of molestation of the woman.
