Nagpur: Central Railway’s (CR) Nagpur Division has introduced QR Code facility for seamless online payment at all reserved and unreserved ticket counters. The facility was launched on July 31 to take advantage of high digital penetration and ease of payment.
Passengers purchasing tickets from these counters can now use QR code for quick and easy digital payments. This initiative aims to minimise wait times, eliminate the hassle of handling change, and promote cashless transactions.
On the first day of the launch, tickets worth Rs 39,490 were sold using QR code payment. In line with Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger experience through technology, this initiative builds upon the success of mobile ticketing systems for reserved tickets and the UTS on Mobile app for unreserved tickets. The introduction of QR code facility at both reserved and unreserved counters marks a significant step towards comprehensive digital transformation in railway ticketing.
For passengers the benefits include faster ticket purchases, convenient digital payments, elimination of change related issues, reduced queuing times. The move is part of strategy to promote digital payments and improve efficiency across the railway network. Central Railway encourages all passengers to embrace this new technology, making their journey smoother and more convenient from the very first step of ticket purchase.
South East Central Railway
The South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur Division, has introduced a new system of buying tickets using QR codes. This initiative is aimed at reducing queues and making the ticket booking process more convenient for passengers. The implementation of QR codes will be done in phases, starting with unreserved ticket counters. Earlier, passengers who wanted to make cashless bookings had to use their debit or credit cards.
However, this still required them to stand in queues at the ticket counters. The introduction of QR codes is expected to ease the rush and provide a hassle-free experience for passengers.
