Acting on secret information, police raided a house near Wasanshah Square in Jaripatka area and busted a cricket betting racket being run from the place. The raiding cops arrested five bookies and seized material worth Rs 5 lakh. The swoop was undertaken under the directives of DCP Abhinash Kumar.

The DCP received information that betting is taking place at a house near Wasanshah Square on India-England T20 International being played at Kanpur on January 26. He immediately directed police personnel from other police station than Jaripatka to raid the place. As directed, Yashodhara Nagar police swooped on the house and detained the five accused bookies Vinay Wasvani, Gulshan Tikiyani, Rakesh Wadhvani, Pawan Wadhvani and Lakhan Wadhvani. The raiding cops also seized over 30 mobile phones, a TV set, set top boxn cash collectively valued at Rs 5 lakh.

Later, a case was registered with Jaripatka Police Station against the five accused under relevant sections of IPC and IT Act and they were placed under arrest.

Jaripatka In-charge PI, other cops face DCP heat:
According to sources, after the raid action against cricket betting, the DCP Abhinash Kumar reached Jaripatka Police Station and gave a dressing down to In-Charge PI and other personnel as the racket was being run under their nose. The DCP held out a warning and said that inaction will not be tolerated again. He directed the PI to bust out who is mastermind of the cricket betting and bring him to book.
