Cricket betting racket busted

Crime Branch on Wednesday busted a cricket betting racket being run from a flat in Pioneer Woods Colony, Hingna Road and arrested two persons involved in the crime. However, two other accused are still at large and are being hunted. Cops have seized a TV, laptop and other material being used for the betting.

Sleuths of Crime Branch on a patrol duty received information that some persons were indulging cricket betting over Australia-Sri Lanka ODI on Wednesday at Flat No 304, G Wing, Pioneer Woods Colony, Hingana Road. Acting on the information, the cops raided the flat around 5.30 pm on Wednesday and found that two persons Nilesh Dadarao Tapase (40) of Mhalginagar and Sachin Dilip Bhute (27) of Somwari Quarters, Sakkardara, busy in cricket betting. The raiding cops immediately put the two accused under arrest and seized a TV, laptop, voice recorder, 8 mobile phones, printer and other material being used in the crime. However, two more accused Chintu Chug and Dipen Beda of Wardhaman Nagar are at still large and are being searched.
The accused have been booked under Sections 4, 5 of Mumbai Prevention of Gambling Act.

The raid was carried out by API Gokul Suryavanshi, constables Shailesh Thawre, Suresh Hinganekar, Rajesh Thakur, Shatrughna Kadu, Rajesh Kshirsagar, Naik Police Constables Atul Davande, Shyam kadu, Manish Bhonsale, drivers Firoze and Raju Potdar.
