Nagpur: President, Secretary and other office-bearers of a cooperative society duped investors to the tune of over Rs 50 lakh by luring them interest of 25 percent on their invested money. The accused President and Secretary are husband and wife. All the accused have been booked but no arrest has been made in the matter.

The accused couple, Kiran Ganesh Thakur (40) and Ganesh Pratapsingh Thakur (48) are President and Secretary respectively of Swargiya Shantabai Bahuuddeshiya Vikas Sanstha situated near Pili Nadi, Yashodhara Nagar. The accused Thakur couple, residents of Bamleshwari Nagar, and other office-bearers lured the complainant Sindhu Baban Pawar (52) of Bhilgaon, Shivnagar, and many other people to invest in the society.

The accused ‘promised’ the investors interest of 25 percent on their invested money. Falling in the trap of astronomical returns, Sindhu invested Rs 96,000 and many other people Rs 49.51 lakh. However, the accused failed to provide 25 percent interest as ‘promised’ to Sindhu and other investors and thus cheated them to the tune of over Rs 50 lakh.

Yashodhara Nagar police constable Ramesh, based on complaint of Sindhu Pawar, booked the accused Thakur couple and other office-bearers of Swargiya Shantabai Bahuuddeshiya Vikas Sanstha under Sections 420, 34 of the IPC read with Section 3 of New Financial Institutions Act 1999 and launched investigation. No arrest has been made in the matter so far.
