Cops seize Rs 16.69 lakh in junked notes from Manewada house, 7 men detained

In yet another haul of junked currency notes, Hudkeshwar cops on Wednesday swooped on a house in Manewada Old Basti and seized Rs 16.69 lakh in the denomination of Rs 1000 and Rs 500.

Police have taken custody of seven persons for questioning. Acting on a secret input, a police team raided Padmakar Nilkanth Surkar’s house and seized Rs 16.69 lakh in demonetized currency. A stash of 2362 notes of Rs 500 (Rs 11.81 lakh) and 488 notes of Rs 1000 denomination (Rs 4.88 lakh) was recovered from the house.

After the detailed investigations, cops have decided to hand over the illegal cash to Income Tax Department for further course of action. Besides Surkar (51), who claims himself to be a farmer, cops detained Nandkishor Shriram Thakre (45), Omprakash Sharma (55), both residents of Shree Nagar; Dilip Nanwatkar (45), a resident of Ayodhya Nagar, Nilesh Jagdish Raut (32), a resident of Bapu Nagar, and Dhanraj Mahalle (63), a resident of Bidipeth, for questioning.
