Cops raid Kondhali farm house, bust cricket betting racket

Acting on secret inputs, Kondhali cops raided a farm house and arrested four persons who were found betting and accepting bets on cricket matches. The raiding cops have seized cash, car and gambling material collectively worth Rs 9.23 lakh.

The Kondhali police, on August 14, received a tip off that some persons were indulging in gambling and betting on cricket matches at a farm house in Satnavri Shivar. The farm house is owned by Suresh Katamale, resident of Wadi. Acting swiftly, a team of cops led by Kondhali API Purshottam Aherkar and comprising PSI Pawan Bhamburkar, constables Nivrutti Yavle, NPC Kanifnath Jadhav, woman police sepoy Asmita Gaekwad, sepoys Sunil Wani, Sukhdeo Dhaldhale, and Ganesh Tajne raided the farm house around 8 pm. The raiding cops found four persons namely Vilas Bhimrao Manghate (36), resident of Nandanvan, Deepak Shankar Goswami (29) of Hiwrenagar, Sheikh Abbas Sheikh Hamid (33) of Hiwre Layout and Yash Kanhaiyalal Arora (21) of Lakadganj were indulging in gambling and betting on cricket matches. Cops seized cash Rs 17,685, 14 mobile phone handsets, 2 laptops, other gambling material and a Swift Dezire car collectively valued at Rs 9.23 lakh.

During interrogation, the four accused told police that two persons namely Dipen Bheda and Sheikh Firoze, both of Nagpur, had arranged a line for providing advance information regarding cricket matches. Similarly, Suresh Katamale made available his farm house for running the gambling den. The betting and accepting bets was being done on a match being played between Ruby and Layka in Tamilnadu Premier League.

Kondhali police have booked the arrested four accused under Sections 4, 5 of Maharashtra Gambling (Prevention) Act read with Section 109 of the IPC. All the accused were produced in the court of JMFC, Katol which remanded them to police custody till August 18.
