Cops intercept car, seize stock of liquor bound for ‘Dry’ Chandrapur, 2 men arrested

Nagpur: Crime Branch of city police, acting on tip-off, on Saturday intercepted an Innova car near Mangalmurti Square, Pratapnagar, and seized 11 boxes containing 480 bottles of different brands of whisky and rum worth Rs 67,000. The stock of the liquor was most probably being transported to “Dry” Chandrapur district for sale at premium. Two occupants of the car have also been arrested.

The cops have seized the silver-coloured Innova car (AP-09/CS 6389) worth Rs 10 lakh. The two arrested accused have been identified as Suraj Baburao Bawne (28), resident of Azad Square, Rajura, Chandrapur District and Venkat Rangayya Yeralwar (46), resident of Bansinagar, Digdoh, MIDC, Nagpur. The two accused have been booked under Sections 65(E), 83 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

The action was carried out by APIs Pravin Patil, Gorakh Kumbhar, constables Naresh Rewatkar, Suresh Thakur, Naresh Sahare, sepoys Ravindra Barai and Pankaj Morey, all belonging to Crime Branch Unit 1, under guidance of DCP (Crime) and ACP Nilesh Raut.
