Coop bank director robbed of Rs 12 lakh at knife point

Nagpur: A 70 year old man serving as a Director of Chattisgarh Cooperative Bank in Kalamna was robbed of Rs 12 lakh by three-bike borne robbers with their face covered, The director Vipadram Mankar was robbed on Rajiv Gandhi bridge at Chikhli in day light on Thursday.

The incident took place when Vipadram, director of Chattisgarh Cooperative Bank in Kalamna, and his peon Sudarshan Gurupanch were headed to Saraswat Cooperative Bank, Kalamna market branch, to deposit the amount on a two-wheeler, said police.

The duo was intercepted by the three robbers who came from the opposite direction. While two of the robbers got off the bike to approach Vipadram and Sudarshan, the third one kept the ignition of the two-wheeler on.

Sudarshan had kept the cash in a bag on his lap. The robbers wielded a knife to threaten Vipadram and Sudarshan. Speaking in Hindi, the robbers urged Vipadram and Sudarshan to part with the cash bag to avoid being wounded.

After snatching the bag from Sudarshan, the robbers sped away. Police said Vipadram and Sudarshan were so shocked that they could not note down the registration number of the bike.

Senior PI Mahesh Chate of Kalamna police station said that every measure is being taken, including searching for clues in the CCTV footages at different places, to trace the robbers. “Vipadram and Sudarshan had used the same route at the same time before too for depositing the cash. Sudarshan is working at the bank for the last five years but he would be quizzed too,” he said.

An offence of armed robbery has been registered at Kalamna police station.
