A police constable posted at Gangazari police station in Gondia district went berserk on Friday following a family dispute at his residence in Babadeep Nagpur under Zaripatka police station here and opened fire at his wife and sister who were rushed to the Mayo hospital. His sister succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital while the condition of his wife is reportedly serious. Police sources informed that constable Rajesh Brahmankar resided at Chatterjee Layout at Babadeep Nagar along with his wife Ritu, son, daughter and sister Prema.

Prema used to stay in the room located upstairs at the house while various other rooms were lying vacant. Rajesh also has one widow sister Nanda who reside out of Nagpur. Nanda’s only son who was addicted to liquor died earlier while her daughter in law left for her home after his death. Nanda was living alone since then. It is learnt that Rajesh had insisted on sheltering his sister Nanda in one of the vacant rooms at his house here. However, his wife Ritu was reluctant to have Nanda in their house. This led to an argument between Rajesh and his wife that started on Wednesday.

On Friday, the couple again had the tiff over the same issue which escalated into heated exchange between the two. In a fit of rage Rajesh pulled out his sten gun and fired two shots at his wife. One bullet hit at her shoulder while other stuck in her chest. Meanwhile, his sister Premlata who came to rescue Ritu also faced Rajesh’s ire. He also fired one bullet at Premlata, which pierced her stomach.

Meanwhile, on hearing the gun shots the neighbors rushed at Rajesh’s house where they witnessed the blood soaked body of his wife and sister. They quickly informed the police and rushed the injured to Mayo hospital where Premlata died.
Zaripatka police have arrested Rajesh while the matter is being investigated further.
