Nagpur: On Day-5, the last day of first week of Maharashtra Legislature Winter Session, Congress members squatted on the stairs of Vidhan Bhavan and protested against Government’s inaction in announcing total waiver of farmers’ debts and special package. The placard holding Congress members raised slogans against Government’s inaction in providing relief to distressed farmers. Some of the Congress members resorted to ‘Kirtan’ outside Vidhan Bhavan while some squatted on the staircase holding placards demanding relief to distressed farmers in the State. The Opposition members frequently raised Modi’s “Acche Din” words and asked when the good days will come. “In the past one year, 3107 farmers have committed suicides but the Government has still not announced any relief to farmers,” said the protesting Congress members.

The first four days of Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature were a total waste as no business worth the name could be transacted. The Opposition parties stuck to their demand that the Government first announce comprehensive relief measures for famers. The Government insisted detailed discussion over agrarian crisis and then relief measures. The imbroglio continued on Day-5 as well.
