Nagpur: A 40-year-old college professor, identified as Praveen Ambadas Dhakite, fell victim to a cybercrime scam, resulting in a staggering loss of Rs 31 lakh. The fraudster lured the professor with a tempting part-time job opportunity, exploiting modern communication platforms to perpetrate the crime. The Nagpur Cyber Police were alerted to the incident and have taken appropriate legal action against the perpetrator.
Praveen Ambadas Dhakite, a respected professor at a college in Tumsar, received an alluring job offer via WhatsApp on April 30. Intrigued by the promise of a lucrative part-time opportunity, he decided to invest a substantial sum amounting to Rs 31 lakh in the hope of reaping the promised rewards.
Unfortunately, the enticing job offer turned out to be a cunning ploy by a cybercriminal. Praveen never received the rewards he was promised, and more distressingly, he was unable to retrieve the substantial amount he had invested. The cybercriminal managed to deceive the professor and escape with the ill-gotten funds, leaving Praveen in financial turmoil.
Upon realizing that he had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme, Praveen Dhakite immediately reported the incident to the Nagpur Cyber Police. Recognizing the gravity of the crime, the Cyber Police promptly registered an official complaint against the fraudster.
The registered complaint has led to the filing of an offence under Sections 419, 420 and Section 66 (d) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
