CME programme on ‘Emergency Medicine for Dental Professionals’ held at VSPM Dental College

Nagpur News: The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, VSPM Dental College, Nagpur organized a CME program on ‘Emergency Medicine for Dental Professionals’ on the November 22, 2013.

At the outset Vice Dean & Head Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Ramakrishna Shenoi welcomed the dignitaries and the delegates to the programme. He emphasized on the extreme importance of such programmes that help the dental professionals to tackle any emergency that could arise during the course of the treatment. The dean of the college, Dr. Usha Radke, stressed on the need of such programmes that help the dental surgeons to hone up their skills.

The chief guest of the program Dr Vinay Hazarey was of the opinion that emergency medicine should be introduced at the graduate level to help the dental professionals to rapidly diagnose and manage such exigencies in a very orderly fashion.

Dr. Chetan Trivedy BDS, FRCS Ph.D. from London, the speaker and faculty for the programme initially spoke on the basic life support mechanisms and the methods of early diagnosis of conditions such as Acute Coronary Syndrome, Diabetic coma, vasodepressor syncope, seizures in the dental operatory etc.

The second half of the programme Dr. Trivedy demonstrated the various aspects of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation that included the chest compressions, rescue breaths and methods of securing the airway. This was followed by the delegates practicing on the manikins in simulated situations.
