Civic services take a hit as NMC faces staff shortage

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), which is under the firing line of citizens for inefficient civic services, is facing great difficulty in providing basic amenities to the city having more than 30 lakh population due to shortage of staff, especially in the higher posts.

Recently, two Superintendents from the Market and Accounts and Finance Departments were appointed as Assistant Municipal Commissioners for Dhantoli and Hanuman Nagar zones respectively. This came after Vijay Humne, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Hanuman Nagar, who also held additional charge of Dhantoli zone, retired on February 29.

Market Department Superintendent Pramod Wankhede has been appointed Assistant Municipal Commissioner for Dhantoli while NMC Accounts Officer Narendra Bawankar was given additional charge of Hanuman Nagar zone as Assistant Municipal Commissioner.

Besides, two posts of Deputy Municipal Commissioners fell vacant with the transfer of Vishal Wagh (Social Welfare Department) and Suresh Bagle (Transport, Market, Estate Department).
