Surgeon Rear Admiral Joy Chatterjee has taken over as the Additional Director General Medical Services (Navy) at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence ( Navy), New Delhi upon his promotion to the Flag Rank on December 6, 2016. He is an alumnus of SFS Higher Secondary School and Hislop College, Nagpur.

Admiral Chatterjee is a Paediatric Anaesthetist and has a Fellowship in Liver Transplant Anaesthesia from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK. He has been a pioneer member of the first Liver Transplant team of Indian Armed Forces at Army Hospital, Research & Referral, New Delhi in 2007-2011.

He is the son of late Major H M Chatterjee & Sumita Chatterjee. His brothers, Maj Gen (retd) Chandan Chatterjee and Dr Anjan Chatterjee, Advocate, High Court, Nagpur are also permanent residents of Nagpur.
