City Youth Congress remembers freedom fighter Punamchand Ranka

Nagpur: City Youth Congress on Wednesday paid tributes to freedom fighter Tyagmurti Punamchand Ranka on his death anniversary today. Leader of Opposition in NMC Tanaji Vanve garlanded the Mahal-based statue of the late freedom fighter and remembered his contribution in freedom movement.

In his introductory speech, City Youth Congress President Banti Shelke recalled the lifetime contribution of late Punamchand Ranka and how he jumped into the freedom movement on the call of Mahatma Gandhi. At the time of freedom struggle, the late Ranka, who was also the then Pradesh President of CP & Berar Congress, donated crores of rupees and hundreds of acres of land to ashrams. Nagpur was capital of Madhya Pradesh at that time. The late Ranka’s contribution in freedom movement is unparallel, Shelke recalled. Senior Congress leader Shivaji Ahirrao also spoke on the occasion.

The programme was also attended by Corporators Harshala Sable, Neha Nikose, Dinesh Yadav, Manoj Gawande, Nitin Sathavane, Asha Uike, former Youth Congress President Bhola Baisware, Regional Secretary Atul Kotecha, City Congress Committee General Secretary Hasmukh Chhaglani, Chitnavispura Urban Coop Bank Chairman Ishwar Chaudhary, former Corporator Manoj Sable, Ashok Nikhade, Sunil Gulgulwar, Shahin Asif Sayyed, Block President Shakil Bhai, and many other activists.

The programme was conducted by Rajendra Thakre while General Secretary Alok Kondapurwar proposed a vote of thanks.
