City remembers Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 127th birth anniversary

Nagpur: Various organisations in city celebrated the 127th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Architect of the Indian Constitution, on Saturday, April 14, with great fervour and gaiety. Dr Ambedkar is remembered for his efforts to eradicate the social evils such as untouchability and caste-based restrictions as well as uplifting the status of Dalits.

Thousands of followers of visited Deekshabhoomi and Samvidhan Square from the early morning and paid their tributes to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. Cakes were cut and processions were taken out amid music and songs dedicated to the Dalit icon.

The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis garlanded the full-sized statue of Dr Ambedkar at Samvidhan Square and remembered the multi-faceted personality who waged a life-long struggle for a modern India free of caste and other prejudices, ensuring equal rights for women and for the disadvantaged.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion include Mayor Nanda Jichkar, MLAs Sudhakar Deshmukh, Sudhakar Kohale, Krishna Khopde, Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar, Ruling Party Leader in NMC Sandeep Joshi, Sandeep Jadhav, Kishore Palandurkar, Bhojraj Dubey, Rambhau Ambulkar, several Corporators, and people in large numbers.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation:
Mayor Nanda Jichkar garlanded the oil portrait of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at NMC Headquarters in Civil Lines and paid tributes to him on behalf of the city. Others who remembered the Architect in Indian Constitution include Standing Committee Chairman Vicky Kukreja, Leader of Opposition Tanaji Vanve, Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, Sanjay Bangale, Dhammapal Meshram, Sunil Hiranwar, Ujjwala Sharma, Kishore Jichkar, Mishant Gandhi, Additional Commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare and others.
