City cops showcase their hi-tech prowess at Tantra Tech Expo-2017 & win hearts, too

Police force of Second Capital City of Nagpur showcased their hi-tech prowess at the 3-day Tantra Tech Expo-2017, and won hearts in thousands as well. The event is the brainchild of top police brass aimed at apprising citizens about police working.

City Police Commissionerate organized the Tantra Tech Expo-2017 at Shivaji Stadium at Takli Headquarters from January 25 to 27. The aim of the hi-tech event is strengthen ties between police and citizens.

The 3-day event saw police personnel deployed at more than 40 stalls of various technology busy in informing the visitors about the finer points of hi-tech that is being used by them. The stall set up at “Tantra” exhibition include IT Department, Forensic Department, Finger Prints, EoW, BDDS, NDRF, Fire and Emergency Services of NMC, etc. Different government offices have also set up their stalls to make people aware about their functioning.

The Tantra Tech Expo-2016 witnessed thousands of students, youngsters, aged thronging the stalls and returning homes in awe after watching the hi-tech gadgets being used by city police to handle crimes and criminals. The city police have displayed their weapons at the expo. Weapons like Pump gun, LMG, AK47, INSAS, SLR, MP5, Carbine, Pistol were on display.

Top brass of city police including Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham, Joint CP, DCPs, ACPs, and other senior officials graced the event dutifully.


Students who visited various stalls at the Tantra Tech Expo were left with gainful knowledge about the technique and technology at the disposal of city police. Elders lining at the stalls were also benefited on one point or another. The visitors showed their keen interest in cyber crimes and how the cops crack them. However, the attractions the stall drew were certainly the stalls of forensic science , arms and ammunition , finger prints. The visitors got the first hand knowledge of police working in these fields. The stalls of Aadhar card and PAN card also saw a rush as those visitors who have still not procured the vital documents registered themselves for the same.

However, the thing that stole the show undoubtedly was the Induction Publicity Exhibition Vehicle (IPEV), an initiative by Indian Air Force (IAF) under its publicity wing ‘Disha.’ A flight simulator inside a bus caught the interest of engineering students. The vehicle is a modified luxury bus which houses a basic flight simulator capable of simulating flight characteristics of IAF’s cargo and fighter aircraft like Sukhoi Su-30. Scale models of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Mirage 2000, MiG 29, Rafale and a gravity suit (used by fighter pilots) were on display.


Other attractions of the 3-day Tantra Tech Expo-2017 include knowledgeable information dished out by Social Security Branch to the visiting students, Cyber Crime Cell stall, awareness drive on traffic rules, anti-psychotropic substance squad presentation, mobile monitoring solution and vehicle security and tracking system, disaster management skills of NDRF etc.

The medical fraternity of the city also extended their services with eye camp, stall set up by Arneja Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, checkup by Platina Heart Hospital etc.


In sum, the Tantra Tech Expo-2017 gave an insight of hi-tech prowess of police force of a Smart City Nagpur is being transformed soon. The expo made citizens aware of filing a police complaint without actually gate crashing to the police station. Directly communicating with senior police officials through video-conferencing, scanning their complaints, pictures and audio-visual recordings and sending them through the specially-designed computerized network. And many more.
