Mumbai: Anti-corruption activist Anjali Damania has sent a written complaint to Maharashtra’s Additional Director General (Prisons) Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay on Tuesday regarding the luxurious treatment being given to the former Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and his son Sameer Bhujbal imprisoned in Arthur Road jail.

“I have made several telephonic complaints and SMSes to you regarding the preferential treatment given to Chhagan Bhujbal and Sameer Bhujbal in Arthur Road Jail, which included a 5-feet TV where he was watching Hindi movies, favourite food being provided (chicken masala), fruits every two hours and also that Sameer Bhujbal was provided Vodka, which was sneaked into Arthur Road Jail through coconut water,” reads the complaint written by Damania.

The activist has further highlighted that the jammer has been snapped inside the jail to facilitate Sameer to talk twice a day to his family and friends for at least three hours on his mobile phone.

“Sameer has been allowed to talk for 3 hours in the morning and in the evening with a special place allocated to him,” said the letter sent to Upadhyay through email.

The activist, in her complaint, has requested that the activities of such prisoners should be monitored through CCTV camera.

Damania, who has already filed a contempt petition against Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital, for allowing extended hospital stay to Chhagan Bhujbal.

Dr Lahane was found guilty of contempt and the contempt petition was allowed by PMLA Court with the matter been referred to Mumbai High Court for contempt proceedings.

The activist has requested Upadhyay to restrict and monitor the people meeting such prisoners in hospital.

“There were reports that Bhujbal met a lot of people, including those from the political class, when he visits the court. This was widely covered by the media. But today this was repeated. But, unfortunately there has been NO ACTION or no lesson learnt? Today too, he was at the PMLA court in the ED matter,” reads the complaint.

Damania has requested the addition DG (Prisons) to investigate the matter and keep her informed.

Sources in Maharashtra DG office told FPJ senior police officer Swati Sathe will investigate the matter further.

Chhagan Bhujbal’s lawyer R.B.Mokashi said, “It is her (Anjali Damnia’s) complaint and the ADG, Bhusan Kumar Upadhayay, is looking into it. Let the probe report come out.
