Case registered against cop for misusing service revolver

Nagpur: Detailed investigations into the suicide by one of the inmates of a drug de-addiction center by a revolver brought to fore that a police constable attached with Gittikhadan Police Station had lent his service revolver to the deceased which he had used to commit suicide.

It could be recalled that the deceased Saurabh Sureshchandra Sharma aged 25 years and resident of Plot No 129 A, Aakar Nagar, Katol Road, Gittikhadan, Nagpur was undergoing treatment at Maitreyi Vyasan Mukti Kendra (Drug-De-addiction Centre). However on February 19, 2015, at around 7:30 to 7:45 pm, he got critically injured when he shot himself on his head with a revolver. He was rushed to Wockhardt Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for bullet injuries. However, at around 12:50 am on February 20, 2015, he was declared dead by the attending doctors. The father of the deceased Sureshchandra Babulal Sharma aged 59 years and a resident of Plot No 129 A, Aakar Nagar, Katol Road, Gittikhadan, Nagpur had filed a complaint.

The MIDC Police had registered a case of accidental death and were investigating into the case. During the course of intensive investigations, it came to fore that a Police Constable attached with Gittikhadan Police Station identified as Hemant Gotmare Belt No 2523 who was a friend of the deceased Saurabh used to often lend his service revolver issued to him to the deceased.
During the course of investigation, it came to fore that when the deceased Saurabh had gone home; he had gone to meet the Police Constable friend of his too. He borrowed his service revolver and then went to de-addiction centre (Maitreyi Vyasan Mukti Kendra) and shot himself on the head resulting in his death.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the father of the deceased Sureshchandra Babulal Sharma, Police Sub Inspector Godbole of Gittikhadan Police Station registered a case against the police constable Hemant Gotmare under sections 304(A) and 166 of Indian Penal Code.
