Nagpur: Nearly two weeks after a 56-year-old man died following a fall into a water tank at a residential complex in Gotal Panjari, the Beltarodi Police Station has registered a culpable homicide-related negligence case against a builder for allegedly failing to provide basic safety measures at the site.
The deceased, identified as Vilas Shalikrao Katare, was found unconscious inside a cement water tank at the Singapore City Europia-01 apartment complex on April 28 between 5.30 am and 6.30 am. Residents immediately rushed him to Neuron Hospital, where he underwent treatment for two days before succumbing to his injuries on April 30, police said.
Following the incident, police had initially registered an accidental death case. However, during the course of investigation, statements of family members and residents were recorded, including that of the deceased’s daughter, Snehal Vilas Katare.
According to investigators, the probe revealed serious lapses in safety arrangements around the water tank. Police said the tank allegedly did not have a protective boundary wall, railing, or safety net, making the area hazardous for residents.
The complainant alleged that builder Sanju Jaiswal failed to install essential safety infrastructure despite the dangerous condition of the tank, thereby endangering lives within the residential premises.
Police further stated that Vilas Katare had reportedly gone near the tank to check the water level when he lost balance and fell inside, suffering critical injuries that later proved fatal.
Based on the findings of the investigation, Beltarodi Police have now registered an offence against the builder under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death due to negligence. Further investigation is underway.
