Breathtaking demonstrations mark Fire Service Day in city

Breathtaking live demonstrations on Fire Fighting, Urban Search and Rescue, Medical First Aid, Life Rescue, Midley Drill, Oil Fire, and other by Fire Brigade personnel marked Fire Service Day in Nagpur on Thursday, April 14, 2016. National Fire Service Day is observed on every year on April 14 to pay tributes to 66 gallant firefighters who fought a catastropic explosion that occurred on April 14, 1944, at Bombay Dock in a Vessel S S “Fort Stikine.” The ship contained nearly 1,200 tons of explosives, cotton bales and oil drums. The disaster involved heavy loss of human life including 66 firefighters.

The Fire Service Day and demonstrations were held at Chitnis Park Stadium. The event was organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Fire Brigade and Emergency Service Department. The day also marks beginning of “Fire Service Week” till April 20.

The Mayor Pravin Datke, MLC Anil Sole, Deputy Mayor Munna Pokulwar, Ruling Party Leader Dayashankar Tiwari, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Chief Fire Officer Rajendra Uchke, Chairman of Standing Committee and Deputy Chairman of Fire Brigade Committee Bandu raut, many other officials and citizens with the demonstrations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the Nagpur Fire Brigade Department has glorious tradition as its personnel are ever ready to face the challenges without caring for their lives. “The firefighters sometimes have work for 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours on trot at the time of emergency. For citizens to know how these brave men carryout their duties, this year the event was organised at spacious Chitnis Park Stadium so that more and more people could watch the daredevilry of the firefighters,” said Mayor.

At the outset the dignitaries laid wreaths at the memorial to pay homage to firefighters who attained martyrdome while discharging their duties. Thereafter, Mayor and other dignitaries inspected the parade of Fire Brigade personnel and took salute. Photographs of martyred firefighters from Mumbai and Nagpur were garlanded and their bravery remembered. Chandrakala Prabhu Kuhikar and Shantabai Ramesh Thakre of martyred firefighters were felicitated with shawls and shriphals.

Fire Service Day
The Chief Fire Officer Rajendra Uchke elaborated on the activities the Fire Brigade and Emergency Service Department undertakers round the year. Later, breathtaking demonstration were held that included Fire Fighting, Urban Search and Rescue, Medical First Aid, Life Rescue, Midley Drill, Oil Fire, and other by Fire Brigade personnel.

The programme was conducted by Hambirrao Mohite while Sudhakar Kale proposed a vote of thanks.
