Nagpur: Breakthrough in the daylight murder of the elderly woman in Sakkardara area on Monday eluded the cops as they were found groping in the dark over the identity of the killer(s) and the motive behind the grisly killing as well. Shashikala Nashikrao Thakre (65), resident of Omnagar, bang opposite Sakkardara Police Station, was hacked to death with a scissor in her house on Monday between 2.30 pm and 3 pm. Robbery is being suspected at the motive behind the killing of the frail lady.

The ghastly murder came to light when Shashikala’s granddaughter Arohi Thakre (5) and grandsons Achitya Khode (10) and Atharva Khode (8) returned home after school. The kids called their grandmother but could not get any response. The three children saw Shashikala lying on the floor and blood dripping from her throat and neck. The gory scene scared the kids to the core and they started shouting in pitched voice. Hearing the commotion, the neighbours gathered at their house and alerted the Sakkardara police.

DCP Zone 4 Shridhar, DCP (Crime) Ranjan Sharma, ACP Sakkardara, Sakkardara DB Squad, Crime Branch Squad visited the crime scene and started investigation into the cold blooded murder. A Forensic team and Dog Squad too arrived to help the investigation. Cops were scanning the footage of CCTV for any clues.

However, the breakthrough dodged the investigating cops over the identity of the assailant(s) and the exact motive behind the murder even though looting is being suspected. It is learnt that the deceased Shashikala used to wear gold ornaments in fairly good number. But the cops are probing the murder from all angles including any property dispute and old enmity.

The deceased reportedly owned houses in Om Nagar, Hudkeshwar and Uday Nagar apart from agriculture lands in Wardha district and at other place. The family members denied any property dispute.
