Nagpur: Amid a wave of rumours circulating on social media about an alleged shortage of petrol and diesel in the country, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has firmly dismissed the claims, calling them misleading and completely baseless.
In an official communication issued to customers, BPCL clarified that fuel supplies across the country remain stable and sufficient, and there is no cause for panic among consumers. The company reassured citizens that petrol, diesel and other petroleum products are being supplied normally through its extensive network of fuel stations.
“Claims of shortage in fuel supply circulating on social media are misleading and baseless. There is adequate availability of fuel in the country. Citizens are assured that there is no need for any concern,” BPCL stated in its message to consumers.
The clarification comes after several posts and messages on social media platforms sparked anxiety among motorists, prompting many to rush to petrol pumps fearing an impending shortage. Such rumours often lead to panic buying and unnecessary queues at fuel stations, despite there being no disruption in the supply chain.
Officials emphasized that India’s fuel distribution system remains well-equipped to meet the demand, and oil marketing companies are continuously monitoring stock levels to ensure smooth availability.
At the same time, BPCL appealed to citizens to avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on official updates from government agencies and oil companies.
The company also urged consumers to use fuel responsibly and judiciously, stressing that prudent consumption helps maintain a balanced supply system and prevents unnecessary pressure on fuel distribution networks.
Industry observers note that misinformation on social media can quickly trigger panic among consumers, even when supply remains stable. Authorities have therefore advised the public to verify information before reacting to such claims.
With BPCL’s clarification, officials hope to reassure the public that there is no fuel crisis and normal supply continues across the country.
