The Sangrur (Punjab) court has upheld a two years’ jail term awarded to Bollywood and TV actress, Alka Kaushal and her mother in a cheque bounce case by a lower court.

Alka was seen on the big screen playing the role of Kareena Kapoor’s mother in Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). She also played Kangana Ranaut’s mother in Queen (2014).

It is learnt that Alka and her mom had borrowed Rs 50 lakh from a farmer, Avtar Singh, a resident of Langrian village, to make a serial, but did not return his money. When Singh demanded his money, they handed over two cheques of Rs 25 lakh each which were reported to bounce, Avtar’s advocate Sukhbir Singh Punia said.

Singh, who runs a floriculture business had befriended Alka during a shooting, which led to the large loan. But when his money was not returned he moved a local court in Malerkotla in 2015, which sentenced the two to two years’ jail.

Alka and her mother then moved the Sangrur court for relief, but the additional sessions judge of the court upheld the lower court’s order on Wednesday.

The actress and her mother are now in Sangrur district jail.

Apart from her Bollywood roles, Alka has also worked in Marathi cinema and several popular Hindi TV shows including Qubool Hai, Swaragini and Kumkum.
