BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the GP poll results prove popularity of BJP-Shinde alliance

Nagpur: The alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena faction of Eknath Shinde has got the voters mandate in the Gram Panchayat elections wherein the candidates supported by two parties won the posts of Sarpanch in 299 places. A total of 581 Gram Panchayats went to polls in Maharashtra and the overwhelming support to two parties currently part of State Government is an endorsement of leadership of Chief Minister Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, said Chandrashekhar Bawankule, President, BJP, Maharashtra State unit, on Monday.

Bawankule was interacting with newspersons in the city after results of Gram Panchayat polls were declared by the State Election Commission. He said the government led by Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis took a good decision to conduct polls for Sarpanch, where citizens will vote directly, rather than their elected representatives. “For these polls, I have data of 581 places and am proud to say that BJP has won the sarpanch posts in 259 of these. Apart from this, Shinde’s group has bagged another 40 seats,” Bawankule added.

The State BJP chief further said that GPs are the real test for political parties’ hold in rural bastion and from the results the voters have rejected the three party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The bullet train of BJP-Shinde alliance has gone superfast while the MVA three-party auto-rickshaw lagged behind.

Bawankule justified the decision to hold direct election to the post of Sarpanch and said he or she is responsible for development of the entire village. Therefore the decision ofShinde-Fadnavis Government was proven right by the electorate.

He added, “If sarpanchs were chosen from amongst the elected members (as was the old practice), they would work only for those people or that party. Here, sarpanchs will work for all.”
