Bizarre: Man enters bank manager’s home in Nagpur, attempts suicide with knife

Nagpur: In a bizarre incident, a 22-year-old man entered the apartment of a bank manager and attempted to end his own life by self-inflicted stab wounds near Dinanath High School in Dhantoli area. The man reportedly died at a hospital.

Mona Kumar Rishu Singh (39), residing in Agni Apartments, witnessed the harrowing event recently when a stranger entered her house and stabbed himself with a sharp-weapon and also ransacked her house without any prior contact with her. The man succumbed to the injuries in the hospital, a local media report claimed.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Shankar Bhima Dhurve (31), from Vasantrao Naik Slum, allegedly barged into Singh’s residence without permission. He locked the main door from inside and trapped Singh and her two children. Mona and her children were shocked after seeing a stranger at their house. In a terrifying action, Dhurve reportedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and caused panic among the residents. Mona managed to retrieve the knife from him, while her daughter seized a pan. The family then rushed out for help and called the watchman and a driver.

Meanwhile, Dhurve inflicted harm upon himself by breaking a glass showcase and attempting suicide. The timely arrival of assistance by the security guard prevented further harm. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

An offence under Sections 452, 309 and 427 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Dhantoli Police. A police official stated that Shankar was mentally challenged and residing in Vasantrao Naik Slum. The reason why he chose the particular house to end his life is under investigation.
