Nagpur: In a laudable effort to address educational disparities, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Nagpur has embarked on an ambitious initiative, significantly impacting the lives of disadvantaged children. A total of 125 children, previously unable to pursue education due to financial constraints, along with 55 others who had never been enrolled in school, are now receiving education, thanks to the proactive measures taken by the DLSA.
The heartening initiative, termed the ‘Bring Dropouts Back to School Campaign’, has identified and is in the process of reintegrating 180 school dropouts back into the education system. Spearheaded by DLSA Secretary Sachin Patil, the campaign enlisted the support of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) who played a pivotal role in identifying children in need of educational assistance.
Efforts have not only focused on enrolling these children in schools but also on providing them with essential support such as school uniforms, books, and other educational materials. This comprehensive approach ensures that the students have the necessary resources to embark on their educational journey.
One of the remarkable aspects of this initiative is its inclusive nature, targeting both rural and urban areas to ensure that no child is left behind. Volunteers, including dedicated individuals like Mukund Adewar, Rajratan Wankhede, and Mushahid Khan, have actively engaged with children in underprivileged areas and slums, facilitating their access to education.
In collaboration with Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools in rural areas and municipal schools in urban centres, the initiative has successfully navigated through admission procedures, making the reintegration process smoother for the identified children.
With 102 children from Nagpur city and 78 from rural areas already enrolled in schools through this initiative, there is a renewed sense of hope and optimism among these young minds. The DLSA’s efforts underscore the importance of collective action in addressing societal challenges, particularly those related to education and opportunity. Through their dedication and determination, they have not only transformed the lives of individual children but also contributed to building a more equitable and inclusive society.
Besides admission, the DLSA is also ensuring that the students are provided with school uniforms, books, and other essential materials.
In addition to their efforts on the ground, the para legal volunteers also collaborated with teachers informing them about the importance of admitting underprivileged teenagers in schools. The teachers were also guided on how to encourage ‘out of school’ students to join the education stream.
