Nagpur: A meeting was held at the Ministry of Revenue to address the issue of encroachment on rural roads in Maharashtra. Several rural roads have been encroached upon, causing difficulties to farmers to access their fields. Farmers filed many complaints to the Tehsildar, but those remained unresolved.
To address the issue, a meeting was convened by State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, recently. The meeting was attended by Minister of State Dr Ashish Jaiswal, MLA Abhimanyu Pawar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, Principal Secretary of the Rural Development Department, and other concerned officials.
The meeting decided to assign numbers to all rural roads in the state, similar to the numbering system for rural and other district roads. The Government will implement a new scheme for rural roads and take steps to clear encroachments on existing roads.
Tehsildars will be instructed to hold meetings with those encroachers with an appeal to voluntarily remove their illegal structures. If they refuse to comply, the Tehsildar will be empowered to take action to remove the encroachment according to revenue regulations.
