Severely criticizing the Lokmat Marathi daily for insulting Islamic tenets through cartoon-caricature linking it with ISIS outlaw activities, published on November 29, 2015, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has demanded a ban on the news daily.

It may be mentioned that a cartoon against Islamic tenets was published in Nasik edition of Lokmat Marathi daily, dated Nov 29, 2015, and the cartoon was titled as ‘ISIS cha Paisa’ on Manthan page of the daily, defaming the holy stature of harbinger of Islam, Prophet Muhammad. The cartoon was jointly drawn with caption by Pawan Pande and Prakash Sapkale for Lokmat Marathi daily.

Haji Mohd Saleem Haq, member of Maharashtra Core Committee, AIMIM, in a press release, said, ISIS is a Jewish outlaw organization, quite against the Islamic ideals, and all Indian Muslims condemn the ISIS activities which are against the Islamic tenets. He criticized the outlaw organization for misusing Islamic references, committing crimes against humanity, and thus, defaming the noble and peace loving religion, Islam, across the world.

Haji Haq was also critical of the news daily for its publication of cartoon and then apologizing for the act. He demanded sacking of the editor who was responsible for the act, hurting the sentiments of Muslims of India. He asked why the permission for such an insulting cartoon against religion was given by the editor. He also blamed Lokmat for instigating the feelings of others and disturbing communal peace.
