Nagpur: Equi-City and Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Friday jointly undertook a mass awareness drive aimed at cleaning and beautification of lakes in city. Deputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar inaugurated the drive.

The event was organised at Naik Talao and attended by Swachh Association’s Anusaya Chhabrani, Shefali Dudhbede, Equi-City’s Amruta Anand and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Pardikar lamented that the lakes in the city were once the splendour and attractions of Nagpur. But in the latter years, the lakes were contaminated with increasing pollution. “Today, almost all the lakes are dying. Lendi Talao and Naik Talao were once the boon in North Nagpur. Water was abundant.

But now the lakes have turned into garbage and filth dumps. Citizens should vow not to dump any garbage, filth in the lakes. Moreover, no immersion of Ganesh and Durga idols should take place,” Pardikar said.

A documentary on pollution and cleanliness of lakes was also shown on the occasion. Swachh Association’s Anusaya Chhabrani and Shefali Dudhbede provided guidance on how to keep lakes clean and also threw light on lake beautification campaign. Shekhar Giradkar conducted the programme. A large number of citizens were present on the occasion.
