Awareness can curb spread of infectious diseases: Mayor

01Nagpur: “The infectious diseases could prove fatal. Awareness, apart from other preventive measures, can curb deaths,” said Mayor Pravin Datke after inaugurating a 7-day exhibition “Janiye Sankramak Rogon ke bareme” (Know about contagious diseases) organized jointly by NMC and Association for Research and Training in Basic Science Education on the occasion of Apoorva Vigyan Mela. “The information-oriented exhibition will leave a mark in the minds of children about awareness on infectious diseases, added the Mayor.

03Datke further said that the Apoorba Vigyan Mela, organized through ARTBSE, had drawn attention of the country and for this venture, Suresh Agrawal, Secretary of Association for Research and Training in Basic Science Education, deserves appreciation.

“Children are future of the country. If they are made aware of the contagious diseases right from their childhood, they can contribute their might in the form of healthy citizens,” stated the Mayor.

04A total of 200 posters have been exhibited and the posters in simple Hindi language. The posters contain history of infectious diseases and inventions by researchers. An array of information has been provided in the posters including common contagious diseases like malaria, dengue, chikangunya, flu, swine flu, cholera, TB, HIV etc and their scientific information.

05A few short movies are also being screened in the exhibition to spread awareness. 3-dimensional models on viruses, tissues are also put up. The models, approved by WHO and American Red Cross Society, and several drug manufacturing companies, are on the display for the first time in any exhibition. The exhibition, being held at Rashtrabhasha Bhavan, near Andhra Association, North Ambazari Road from January 11 to 17.

Other dignitaries who attended function include Health Committee Chairman Devendra Meher, Slums Eradication Committee Chairman Sandeep Jadhav, Deputy Director (Health) Dr Milind Ganvir, Health Officer Dr Savita Meshram, Medical Officer Dr Pradeep Dasarwar, Malaria Officer Dr Jaishree Thote, Secretary of Association for Research and Training in Basic Science Education Suresh Agrawal, Director of State Science Education Institute Narayan Joshi, IMM’s Dr A R Ambaikar, Mayo Hospital’s Dr N R Agrawal, GMCH’s Dr S H Golawar, and others.
