Nagpur: The Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Pradeep Nitwane was suspended by DIG (Anti-Naxal Operations) after he was booked and arrested by Sitabuldi police for allegedly raping a minor girl.

According to police, the case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by a 17-year-old girl. The accused PSI and the girl are residents of the same village. The girl shifted to Nagpur for studies a few months back and lived as a paying guest in Sitabuldi area. The parents of the girl told Pradeep to take care of her. Pradeep used to visit the girl’s room. After some time, the girl, too, started visiting Pradeep’s place and had a cordial relationship with Pradeep’s wife.

Police further said that the girl and her acquaintances had downloaded a mobile location application. On Tuesday, Pradeep contacted the girl and told that he would give her a wonderful surprise. He also instructed her to switch off her mobile location application. On Wednesday morning, Pradeep took her out of the city in his car. He stopped the four-wheeler on Amravati Road and offered her alcohol. Both reached Chikhaldara in Amravati district at night and booked a room there. The girl was raped by the accused after threatening her of dire consequences.

When the girl opposed him, the accused apologised to her and even threatened to commit suicide, police said. The two returned to Nagpur on July 14. The girl narrated the incident to her parents. On the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl, Sitabuldi Police registered a case under Sections 363, 376 (2)(F ) and 328 of Indian Penal Code read with Sections 7, 8, 11 and12 of POCSO Act.

A police team of Sitabuldi police station is likely to reach Chikhaldara to collect the CCTV footage for evidence.
