Nagpur: In a brutal act of mass killing 30 stray dogs were poisoned by residents of an apartment scheme in Besa in the last 15 days, according to a complaint filed by Maheshwari Animal Welfare Foundation.

21 dogs were poisoned in a single day while 9 others were poisoned afterwards. Out of the total 30 stray dogs only 2 survived.

Dhananjay Maheswari founder of Maheswari Animal Welfare (MAW) said “Every day we receive calls of such heinous acts. In Nagpur such incidents cases of animal cruelty are on rise,” he said and added, “In last 15 days 30 stray dogs were poisoned in which only two are alive and rest all died. When we enquire about it we found that it was a collective decision of the residents.”

The incident took place at Safalya Apartment in Manish Nagar, Besa. Maheshwari further mentioned that he had a recording of a member of the society in which she claimed that it was a collective decision of their society.

The police said, as we don’t have a post mortem report we cannot proceed further, hence they only gave a warning against the same.
