Apple has introduced its newest model of TV. Apple’s TV specifications page revealed that the TV comes in 32GB and 64GB variants and sports an A8 SoC. The new Apple TV has dimensions of 98x98x35mm, 425 grams in weight. It runs on iOS 9. Moreover, it is compatible with full-HD resolution displays, 10/100Mbps Ethernet, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, and HDMI v1.4 connectivity.
While the RAM of the TV is not mentioned on the page but as per the developer documentation, the TV will have 2GB of RAM. The upgraded RAM will boost the overall working of the TV including faster opening of apps, interface navigation and will provide a solid gaming experience.
However, the updated device does not have a Gigabit Ethernet, which will support nothing more than 100Mbps on the wired front, but has a Gigabit Wi-Fi 802.11ac and the USB port on the set-top box is provided only for service diagnostics.
Apple TV now comes with the new Siri Remote, which has motion controls via the gyroscope and accelerometer and includes a touchpad, apart from enabling voice-based search, playback, and navigation via two microphones for Siri. The remote is also equippe with an IR transmitter, and Lightning connector for charging. Users can also utilise the iPod touch and iPhone as controllers, as well as MFi-certified Bluetooth game controllers. The Apple TV gaming page also shows Steelseries controllers as one of the supported accessories.
