Nagpur: A self-styled anti-Naxal organization called Bhoomkal Sanghatan reacted angrily against activist Arundhati Roy for her outburst over High Court ruling cancelling bail petition of Naxal sympathizer Prof G N Saibaba. Protesting the remarks made by Roy in her write up the activists of Bhoomkal Sanghatan hit the streets and torched her effigy at Panchasheel Square. The President of the organization Datta Shirke along with three other activists burned the effigy of Arundhati Roy and called her a traitor for supporting Naxalism.

Shirke said that Roy had on earlier occasions also made objectionable statements over Kashmir, terrorism and Naxalism that could be termed treason. In the case of Saibaba, Roy has crossed all limits by her outrageous remarks against judiciary and the judge himself. Shirke further claimed that in the JNU even the copies of the High Court judgment cancelling bail plea of Saibaba were burned. Such acts deserve protests. The High Court has slapped criminal contempt notice on Arundhati Roy for her slanderous remarks against the ruling.

However, police arrested protesting Shirke and three others namely Mahesh Mahadik, Vivek Puhane and Sandeep Vajge for their protest without appropriate permission from the concerned authorities.
