Anti-encroachment drive carried out at Poonam Chambers

Nagpur News: In a swift move, the Enforcement Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) removed several encroachments including stalls and food joints that had sprung up in front of Poonam Chambers in Chhaoni and recovered goods from them. The drive which continued for 4 to 5 hours began at 1 pm on Monday, sources informed Nagpur Today.

About 5 to 6 trucks of goods were seized in the operation, which included sheds, counters, stalls, fabrication materials, cooking utensils, gas cylinders, deep freezers, chairs, stove, refrigerators, etc. Three teams of the Enforcement Department led by Prashant Nehare, Civil Engineer Assistant, Enforcement Department, Waman Bhalavi and Rahul Rokde respectively were involved in the drive that was carried out under the Mangalwari zone.

High drama was witnessed as the stall vendors and others tried to stop the demolition of their shops. Some even abused the JCB driver who was trying to remove the illegal constructions. The stall owners also entered into a scuffle with Prashant Nehare and tried to stop the anti-encroachment drive, it was learnt.

Talking to Nagpur Today, Nehare said that the drive was against illegal constructions on an area marked as parking space at Poonam Chambers. “The stall owners and vendors were already served with a notice by the Mangalwari zone which they preferred to ignore.”

The drive was carried under the supervision of A S Baghel, Acting Superintendent, Enforcement Department, Warhade, Assistant Commissioner, Mangalwari zone, Junior Engineer Dhanvijay, Civil Engineer Assistant Sonawane, Ajay More and others.
