New Delhi: The Supreme Court refuses to entertain a plea seeking playing of the national anthem in courts after the Attorney General submits that the petitioner should file a proper application. The SC says its order on the national anthem should not be overstretched. The SC sought the Attorney General’s response on a plea seeking the playing of the national anthem in all courts including the apex court and high courts before the start of proceedings.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked all cinemas to play the national anthem before a film is screened “for the love of the motherland”, reigniting a debate over whether an increasingly assertive brand of nationalistic pride is stifling civil liberties.
