Nagpur/Amravati: Timely action by Amravati police saved the Maharashtra Navanirman Sena’s (MNS) Amravati city president Santosh Bhadre his day. Bhadre was assaulted and kidnapped by five party workers from Janata Chowk on Tuesday. Bhadre was rescued by traffic police at Kriplani turning from a Bolero vehicle.

Police said that Bhadre was profusely bleeding. One of the abductors, Tushar Phundkar, who was trying to flee, too was nabbed by alert traffic cops.

Apart from Phundkar, Bhadre has named Kishor Deshmukh, Nikhil Gawande, Hrushikesh Choudhari and Chhotu as those who assaulted and abducted him. The name of one Sayyed Ali too has cropped up.

Jt CP Shivaji Bodkhe said an offence would be registered once Bhadre gives his statement.

Police said that the incident seems to be a fallout of a political squabbling. Bhadre is learnt to have threatened Independent MLA Bachhu Kadu for taking a dig at MNS chief Raj Thackeray. An audio-clip of it too had gone viral.
It is learnt that Bhadre summoned Phundkar, who is related to Kadu, to settle the issue. After a heated argument, Phundkar and his accomplices pinned Bhadre down and pulled him into the car before speeding away. Eyewitnesses alerted the police.

Kadu admitted that Bhadre was manhandled by his supporters. “He is also an accused in a heinous offence following a complaint of a 19-year-old girl,” he said.
