Nagpur: According to a report, the Amravati police’s cyber experts have successfully cracked the mystery behind the murder of Nagpur taxi driver Azeem Khan, who was found dead near Nandgaopeth on March 26 with his throat slit. One of the accused has been arrested.

According to reports and Amravati CP Navinchandra Reddy, the two passengers who had boarded Khan’s cab at Nagpur, on the pretext of going to Amravati, were wrestlers from Pandharpur. The cyber sleuths traced the location of one of the perpetrators, Siddheshwar Chavan, at Shirdi, and subsequently arrested him. Reddy said that Chavan, who aspired to participate in police recruitment in Mumbai, had reached his village near Pandharpur after the murder and later moved to Mumbai before heading to Shirdi.

The report further said that Chavan and his accomplice had befriended a resident of Bihar who worked at a hotel in Pandharpur. The friend had introduced Chavan and his accomplice to the idea of bringing firearms from Bihar and selling them in Maharashtra. Chavan and his aide were returning to Pandharpur from Bihar via Nagpur, having reached Nagpur by a car from Jabalpur. The two had boarded Khan’s cab from Sitabuldi for Amravati.

Midway, Chavan and his aide had started insisting Khan take them to Pune. They also searched Google Maps to find how to reach Pune when Khan told the duo he did not know the route. Reddy said that Khan was reluctant to take them to Pune, which resulted in an altercation. Khan tried to flee after realizing the threat to his life, but the duo chased him for around 2 km and slit his throat at Shiva Parvati Nagar in Nandgaopeth.

The assailants did not use their mobiles to evade getting tracked through tower locations, but using Google Maps to find routes proved to be their fall. The police were able to track down one of the perpetrators based on their Google Maps search history, leading to the arrest of Siddheshwar Chavan. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
