There is a lot of buzz about Akshay Kumar’s next film, Kesari, which marks his collaboration with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The movie, that was announced with much hullabaloo, was in the news recently when Salman Khan, who was one of the producers of the film, backed out from the project. While there was no official announcement made about Salman’s exit, reports suggested that Khan was miffed with his manager and Karan Johar for tricking him into producing the film on the same subject as the one on which Ajay Devgn had announced his next – Battle of Saragarhi. Reportedly, Salman was told by his manager that Ajay had shelved his film. Hence the former had agreed to make this one. But when Salman met Ajay on the sets of Baadshaho in Jodhpur, he learnt the truth and thus backed out of the project. Later, the status of the film was flaky and in an interview Akshay Kumar was asked about it, to which he had said, “Battle of Saragarhi is happening. Whether Salman is co-producing it is still being figured out!” Recently, Karan Johar announced the film on Twitter. The movie is being jointly produced by KJo and Akshay Kumar and has been titled Kesari. Though no leading lady was confirmed so far, names like Parineeti Chopra, Katrina Kaif had cropped up. However, there hasn’t been an official announcement made about it yet.
Now, we have exclusively learnt from our source that Parineeti Chopra is confirmed as the lead actress of the film and the movie is all set to roll in January 2018. Confirms our source, “Both Karan and Akshay have zeroed in on Parineeti Chopra and she has given her nod too. She is very much onboard and will begin prep for the film soon. An official announcement about the same is being planned for sometime in November end. This is a big project for Parineeti and there was no way she could turn it down.”
The source added, “Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra will begin shooting for Kesari by January 2018.”
Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari is based on the battle of Saragarhi and is all set to release on Holi weekend of 2019.
